|
|
I found this school: TASIS Switzerland that hires American teachers.
Keep in mind that competition must be stiff, but you don't need a teaching license to apply. Here's what they're asking for
BA minimum; MA preferred, in chosen field
 2 years prior teaching experience
Experience with sports, arts, service or other extracurricular clubs
 Background in residential education preferred
Experience living or working overseas preferred

Wow! I've taught at some international schools (including subjects) but looking at the profiles of some of those teachers makes me feel like a complete amateur. |

Basically, you can say that ANY international school or university in all of Europe can and will hire an American or other non-EU member citizen teacher IF that teacher has quals no European candidate can offer - and which the school in question has a specific need for.
The numbers of teachers getting in on such terms are very, very small, for obvious reasons.
I have never heard of any university or international school that specifically seeks only Americans. TASIS, the school cited above, does hire Americans, among others, but obviously the candidate with the best qualifications will get the job, regardless of passport.
Overall, the best advice is: if 'you' find a job opening for which 'you' are well-qualified at an international school or university in Europe - apply. If the school feels that you're the best candidate, your nationality will not matter: universities and international schools can hire you at this level, if they can make a case that you are better-qualified than any of the EU member applicants.
There are occasionally positions specifically for US citizens open on US military bases, but these are usually filled with the spouses of servicemen and women stationed there. |

I guess though as you get older you get more experience. Maybe they're just older? |

Did you look at their profiles, ng? These aren't jobs for the basically-qualified or the experienced-without-significant - further-qualifications and specialisations.
It's a pretty exclusive school and can obviously attract seriously top-tier teachers. |

I did. They are impressive, but the thing that I like is that since Dave's has been around for so long, it seems like more and more oldbies here on Daves are also serious top tier teachers |

I wasn't implying that the school is out of the league of posters here.
However, I think the title of the thread is misleading - the school is not seeking specifically American teachers - they are seeking very highly-qualified teachers. This is the kind of thread that fools newbies into believing that 'this' is the loophole that will get them into Europe, hurrah! It's really kind of false advertising - it should be titled something like:
A few jobs for very highly qualified teachers available in Switzerland |

YOu're right. I'm not sure if I can fit all that in, but I did edit it. |

That's far more accurate, and should not mislead newbies. Thanks.
Though - keep in mind they do not appear to be specifically seeking Americans! Their website's quite clear that they are proud of the international mix of their staff. They are going to hire the best candidates regardless of nationality, so far as I can tell. |

I am not really sure why they would want to go to Europe! |

You got me! I was just trying to be funny. I thought that the light beer might actually be something Europe does well. Depending on how you interpret your beer types. Czech and German varieties are good. |
