The late front man of 'The Doors' died in 1971, and is buried in Paris at the Pre Lachaise cemetery. His grave is one of the most popular tourist spots in the city, and July 3, 2011 marked the 40th anniversary of Jim Morrison's death. Tens of thousands of Doors fans poured into the Paris from all over the world. For those who work and live in Paris, how popular does Jim Morrison seem to be amongst Parisians? Have you ever been to the grave? |

In 2 years here, I have never once talked to a Parisian (student, friend or colleague) who has mentioned or expressed interest in Jim Morrison or his grave.
This could be because the cemetary has never once come up in discussion, as far as I remember. And I spend all day talking to Parisians and asking them for their opinion on anything and everything...maybe I'll try this as a discussion topic next week!
I did go to the Pere Lachaise cemetary once shortly after I arrived in Paris, and saw Jim Morrison's grave among any others. It was actually very "scruffy" and easy to miss compared to a lot of the other graves, e.g. Oscar Wilde's. We had to hunt around a long time to find it. The friends I was with (English) at the time seemed more impressed than I was, as I have never really been into the Doors and don't know that much about Jim Morrison. |
