Hi!
I am going to South America next year and I am planning to do some volunteering in a care home for street kids in Buenos Aires. I will be doing various activities including teaching English. I have done some research and it is cheaper to do a TEFL there than in the UK. I was pretty much decided on EBC until I noticed that there is also a CELTA offered at International House. It is around 300 more expensive but having read through the forums here it seems that the CELTA is a more highly regarded course. Does anybody have any thoughts on whether the difference of 300 pounds is worth it in terms of being prepared to teach? I also understand that the CELTA is a more intensive course: this will not put me off if I will be genuinely better prepared.
I will also try to do some paid teaching if possible to keep me going. I'm not expecting to earn much or save anything, I will have some savings to take with me. From what I can gather it seems that the best time to start is around March / April when the school term kicks is. I was planning on studying in April and starting to do some paid classes in May. Is this realistic, or it worth rushing myself to get teaching by April? I am going to be travelling before I settle in BA so this could potentially shape my plans.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
