Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to obtain a student visa in order to take an Italian language/culture course (or two) for more than 90 days, without being a "full-time" student at a university? Also, would it be possible to obtain this kind of visa while in Europe? I am from the US and simply cannot afford to fly back to the states to get a visa and then return to Europe to teach. There has to be some other way.... I hope! Thanks for the insight.

Not sure really but one solution would be to travel outside of the Schengen Zone (a trip to Britain or Croatia, for example) and then return to start your 90 days again.

Not sure which type of visas you mean here, but generally, I think, you need to be out of the zone for 90 days as well. So visa trips to the UK or Croatia would be much more than a quick trip...

Yes, the cross-the-border and reenter immediately option expired in January of 2009. Sasha is correct - the OP would have to stay out of the zone for 90 days to restart her tourist visa.
