I was told at a recent conference that I could connect my smart phone (an Android model) to the USB port. Does anyone have experience with that and are there any potential problems/issues I need to be aware of?
Since I would be running the phone off my own network, I'm not concerned about tapping into the university's local wifi connection. Just wondered if their are any issues with projecting a smartphone's image onto a larger screen. |

It seems to depend on the projector rather than the phone - some projectors can run videos, etc. from an attached USB mass storage device (i.e. the micro-SD card on your phone via the USB cable), but as for displaying your smartphone screen directly over USB, I don't think that's possible.
There's a chance your colleague at the conference may have confused the mini HDMI port available on some phones (the sony-Ericsson Xperia ARC, for example) with a USB port - they are very similar in dimensions and shape. |
