It seems that he was only a member for a couple days in Oct 2011... never to be seen again after his second post...

Perhaps that is what we should expect from one whose name can be construed as "Prayer of the Faith"

Can you explain what you mean? And also, a better translation of the meaning of the name would be "Goodness of Faith", or "Righteousness of Faith."

The man was a timewaster who knew better than people with experience.

Life has taught me that those who bear names that sound pious are often far from perfect !

The "short little" stuck in my craw. It was the iphone's fault though.
My paternal grandfather was from Russia and the other from Romania so they didn't worry about English spelling, grammar and syntax. I had no idea it was a grandparent issue.

Hi folks,

I am pursuing a job in the Gulf, and just received what seems to be, based on the posts here (and the generally horrendous state of the global economy), an aggressive offer from Ed-Ex.

Basically, it's 30,000/SR/month, the usual package inclusions. Incidentally, I've a PhD, MA, BA (Education x 2, English Lit), about 4 years ESL/ESP experience including time in Cairo, and 6 years teaching undergrads/grads in the humanities, and before I launch into combat for a tenure-track gig stateside, I want to work overseas, and make some decent coin.

While I have gotten some background on Ed-Ex via posts here, my specific query concerns how they handle housing/transportation allowances.

As noted in Ed-EX contract "boilerplate," in English, allowances are paid out of the monthly salary, but in Arabic, it reads that 25% of salary, or a max 3000/SR/month for housing (1000/SR/month transportation), are provided by Ed-Ex (I speak Arabic, but am not Arab).

Can anyone clarify their procedure on allowances? I've emailed them with no response yet, but would like to see what others may know.

Best,

Reggie

You have misplaced a decimal point (or something) because NOBODY in KSA pays ESL teachers $8000.00/month. When it comes to ANYTHING EdEx be afraid, very very afraid. They "paid" me SAR 11,000/mo. but still owe me $7000.00 from 2010 and am not holding my breath waiting to get paid.

Same here, as with Gelynch, but I had a slightly higher salary. I know of one PhD holder with Edex who is being paid something like that 30K amount now, just one person though. He started at 13K. The other one PhD holder I saw with Edex, ended up basically sweeping toilets after he was caught plagiarizing. Oh, there was one other I knew way back, who was paid around 13K for teaching. He left after a couple of months for better employment. So, if you are going just to get into Saudi and have other prospects, it might work out.

Beware, after you get your allowances and start renting an apartment or house, you could be moved anywhere in the Kingdom under the Edex contract. They've done it before, and people have lost money. Except in Riyadh or Jeddah, their allowance might be OK for housing without sharing. Renting a vehicle usually needs to be shared with other employees to break even.

When people read my posts and replies and see that I "joined" in 2011, it is a bit misleading. I actually "joined" in 1999 but in 2010 my e-mail was hacked and deleted so I had to create a new ID everywhere, including here.
