Hi,
I am a vegetarian. Would like to save money for graduate school however my main reason for teaching out of the states is for experience. I hold a BA in English Lit, and am TESOL certified. I'm in my 30's and not interested in partying. I am however interested in meeting women and things to do. I live cheaply and am deciding where to teach first by interest in the location, second for money.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience teaching in any part of Africa where it is possible to save 1500+ US/mo.
Thank you. |

Likely nowhere in Africa unless you walk into an unusually outstanding position. |

As I'm sure you know, both Libya and Sudan are predominantly Muslim countries, where dating is frowned upon. Likely the south of Sudan, being partly Christian, would be a better bet, but I don't see many ads for ESL jobs there. Also, I'm not sure if Libya has opened up again to any degree. Working in the desert in Libya would give you the money you're looking for but your social life would be minimal. |

You can earn $1500 pm in North Sudan but you can forget about dating women. As for South Sudan, I would not recommend you go there. My roommate in Khartoum went back and forth to Juba and he hated it. The salary you can earn down there will be so pitiful there is absolutely no point in putting yourself through it. On the plus side you can have all the booze you want.
Oh and KRT is the most boring city I have ever visited there is just nothing to do! The US and UK embassies have the odd party but that is about it. |
