Hello Everyone,
I tried to open up an account at Banco de Costa Rica and was told you can't open up an account if you're on a tourist visa. Anyone know of any banks in Costa Rica where that is not an issue.
Thanks,
Jeff |

Hi Jeff,
As far as I know (based on opening my bank account last year) there are only two ways you can go about opening an account with any bank in Costa Rica:
1. Through your employer. This means they'll either give you an orden patronal so you can open the account yourself, or if they're super nice (like my job!) they have you fill out all the necessary paperwork and take care of it for you. I had my debit card by my second week of work.
2. If you are not employed, or your employer won't help you, you have to bring to the bank a copy of your housing contract plus signed letters by two Costa Rican citizens stating they know you and that you're not a criminal/crazy person/etc.
Crazy, eh? |
