EFL Specialists: Which textbook would you recommend for trainee teachers of English, whose first language is not English?

I think The Practice of Teaching English, Jeremy Harmer is essential.

Also, Teaching English as an International Language, Gerry Abbot.

Both quite old now. But so am I.

Yeah, Harmer's very good and I think he's bringing out a new edition fairly soon, also Scrivener. Thornbury is brilliantly clear and Watkins is very accessible

Surely Swan ''Practical English usage''. And then again, Swan, ''Practical English usage''. Verily, not only for non-native, but also for native teachers.

But this is coz I do not believe there is any ESL methodology. I believe, nay, I know, on the contrary, there is none.
But this view is veiled in ESL writing, by Harmer for example.
