Greetings!
I'm thinking of Qatar as a home base for the next few years. I'm looking for a few Dave's friends to Skype with. Just to pick your brain about your time in Qatar.
Would love to help you too. I've taught in the States, Spain, and China (Jilin, Fujian provinces).

This is rather an odd post. Have you been offered a job in Qatar and accepted? Otherwise I don't see how you could choose to use it as a "home base." You won't be able to get a long term visa.

I don't Skype and while I'm not in Qatar I have friends who are - what are your qualifications and at what levels have you taught?
Qatar (like much of the GCC) is not a drop in and pick up a job kind of place. Most of the better places require a related MA and post grad experience and they have lots of qualified applicants. |

In that case, you should probably visit some job fairs in the US for K-12 jobs. You won't be eligible for university level teaching. Beware there are some very bad employers at K-12 level.
You do need to find a job first.

And still check out any schools that make an offer. Even some of the bad ones hit these job fairs. Good Luck!

Never heard of this place but there are so many little joints and institutes popping up everywhere. Most of them are offering IELTS classes to QU students who want to avoid the foundation. |

Did you put this post on the wrong thread? There is no school mentioned in this thread. Skype is a phone system... he is asking to share local knowledge.
I thought that you were moving on... to China was it?

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) controls other places besides K-12 schools -- the Houston Community College/Community College of Qatar school that began in September 2010 in Doha for example. |
