As always, every story has two sides. The people that I know there would definitely lean towards Isabel's take.

But it would seem that Dopey, Sleepy, Grumpy, and (fake) Doc have departed.
Shame on them for not taking their friends with them. |

I'm just wondering if a human trainwreck by the name of Don V_n_r didn't wind up there as the misery that I keep reading about this spot reminds me a lot of his handiwork!
It's no wonder why I swore that I'd never work with that bum again! |

| Do you folks at U Nizwa have legal access to a liquor store? Isn't the nearest one in Muscat? And don't you have to live in Muscat to have legal access? |

I know of teachers in the hinterlands who got liquor licenses and others have complained here about the inconvenience of having to fight to get time off to go to Muscat to do so. That suggests that it is doable and done...

| Muscat is about 1.5 hours from Nizwa. It was never a big problem going there so long as you had a car. Friends go all of the time and can pick up alcohol for you if you can't go yourself. Keeping inebriated is not an issue if that is what you want. Your license in Nizwa covers you for Muscat (and shiraz). |

Thanks. This is what I needed. So U Nizwa will give you the letter for the license. I had heard the boss was something of a mutawah. |

Hello folks,
As usual when I need help about ESL jobs the first website I refer to is Dave's.
I was offered a job by Nizwa University in particular Foundation Institute.
The qualifications required are CELTA, diploma in translation, diploma in education and BA in literature and English language.
How much will the salary be for a non-native instructor with those qualifications?
How is it like to work for Foundation Institute? The job offer seems appealing to me but I'm currently employed and I'll quit my current job just in case the new job offer is better!
Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.
Regards |

| The best advice you can get about the University of Nizwa is "Avoid the Place." The current director of the Language Institute is only making things worse on a daily basis. It will never get better as long as he is around. |

I have to say that this is a very odd collection of qualifications to require. It would seem that they would be excluding 99.99% of native speakers.

| I have heard that there has been another exodus this year. As for Nizwa, it depends on your interests. I found it starkly beautiful. There is hiking and camping and 4 wheeling in the mountains. The beaches (a couple of hours away) are quite good, and Muscat is about an hour and a half or two by car, where there is more to do. See if you can find someone who has been at Nizwa more recentiy to answer about how things are currently. My info is 2nd hand from a friend who was there recently. |
