Some nice detective work there, Mr Parka. This is simply unbelievable and bloody scary, although I can see what's coming. Actually I've heard from sources on the inside at the Dept of Work & Pensions(DWP) that if you've been unemployed for a year, you'll need to work for your benefits. Fine, but they're talking about farming you out for 40+ hours a week to a private company who'll have unemployed graduates digging the roads or working on a factory production line. JSA is currently around 67.50 per week, so it's outright slave labour and exploitation. However, with all this production going on, it might boost our manufacturing sector and make a dent in our interest payments on our national debt?

WTF indeed! Supposedly 7 pounds an hour was a fairly standard rate of pay for TEFL in 1976 ( http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=94493 ).

According to the This is Money inflation calculator, 7 pounds in 1976 is the equivalent of 42 pounds in today's money. So the Watford school should be paying around 42 pounds an hour.

JFYI, I was getting 6.50 and 7 quid an hour over 20 years ago at a couple of dodgy 3rd division schools in south London. It was paid in cash, of course, in a brown envelope at the end of the week. The owner of one school was a very dodgy and dislikeable Nigerian, and the other a rather pleasant woman from Singapore, I believe.

It's quite incredible to realise that people are working for the same amounts of money nowadays. Shame on you, Mr Hafeez!

Better off working for someone like EF in China. Higher salary than this nonsense and housing paid for.

Also, never ever has there been a better advertisement than this for doing a PGCE and leaving the career option that is ELT.

Maybe the guy who wrote the ad will join the class and let's hope they have appropriate teachers to point out what is wrong with it.
