having left Oman last year I can tell any ol' buddies on here that life without recruiters is wonderful. I don't have to have squibbles, wibbles or any type of little "discussions" with disturbed and over-confident *****recruiters. I would say more but am trying to be nice here.
I sincerely advise anyone looking for jobs to avoid the incompetency and deceitfulness that you will experience with any and all recruiters and go for a one-one hired position. While there be a few lecturers who are OK with their recruiters, it is because they never see them, don't mind that they siphon their move in costs, or they have been there for years and do not deal with the latest of the mafias who leach from your earnings and move in costs. |

Sadly, the majority of jobs in Oman are tied to recruiters, so those with more limited credentials trying to get that first job will be stuck with these yahoos for at least a year or two or three.
But it is not impossible to survive all that with some flexibility and truly low expectations. Smile and nod... keep your mouth shut... and walk away at contract end with a letter of rec from a Gulf employer. Work on an MA in your free time and the next job will be better. (insha'Allah)
