BBB, you forgot Argentina's first woman president--or do you not count puppet presidents?

I was expecting a classic video of Isabel de Peron!
Did any of you ever see a show, if it wasn't Michael More it was someone like that, he went to an island in Scotland (or Wales) and asked the people if they would like to be Argentine in exchange for the faulkens. He had them doing tangos and making empanadas wearing sky-blue and white football jerseys. |

Evita died as first lady--Juan's second wife, Isabel took on the presidency when she took on widowhood. (Sorry, it's just that 70s era Southern Cone is what got me hooked on Latin America in the first place. I never imagined I'd stay so long in Mexico.) |

Looks like the PAN is having a better chance each day to have another 6 years in office. AMLO is done for, his antics last time around sealed his fate. |

Please don't use the "M" word. You are from an (ex-) British colony! |

No, we still have the queen's mug on our money and require royal consent to so much as pave a road... |

It's shaping up to be an interesting race. This is my take on events:
AMLO: Will gain a large portion of the votes in D.F., and in general from the uneducated class. He is a very smart operator. By no means a conviction politician, but an expert in manipulating the vulnerable and uneducated to believe that he stands for them.
Pea Nieto: The obvious choice for the more educated as a protest vote against the PAN. His handicap will be that after 70+ years of near dictatorship by the PRI, the older voter (and not so old!) will be reluctant to see the return of the party to power.
Vzquez Mota: A really interesting and dividing candidate. In favour, the novelty of being a woman (the first time for a serious candidate), being a Panista will count in favour with some, as although the PAN will not be perceived as a resounding success, many will view them favourable compared with the PAN.
Against, a few gaffes along the way and paradoxically, the novelty of being a woman! |

I'd say that's a fair assessment. I think the real question is where will the PAN votes go if they don't go to Vzquez Mota, be it they leave because of fatigue or disgust with PAN or because they cannot energize the voter as done in 2000 and 2006. They won't go to AMLO or the left, so does Pea Nieto get them by default?
Speaking of Neito...

I fear that's what will happen. |

Naive urbanites.
Educated people around the country would never vote for EPN. As Guy said, it's so obvious that he's hardly literate.
BUT I am afraid about how many UNEDUCATED voters there are who are likely to vote for him. Especially older voters. They remember the PRI kept them fed. (And little else, but since they've known no other life, being fed was better than nothing.) |
