I keep reading about having to buy a car, but what a pain. Is it possible, as a female, to take buses to get around? |

If you've read them then you would know the answer.
No buses only taxis. |

There are comfortable inter-city buses linking Muscat to Sur, Jaalan, Al-Buraimi, Ibri, Salalah and Muscat to Dubai.

I think she is still in job search and research mode... she is also posting questions on the Saudi board.

yep....I am in research mode. I'm trying to weigh what looks to be a higher quality of life in Oman versus a higher salary in Saudi. On top of that I'm trying to bring my little dog. It's complicated! I have to say though that Oman is capturing my attention-looks beautiful and interesting. I'm not getting the impression that the employer includes housing in the deal which, if this is true, is kind of a deal breaker. |

It would be unusual for an education employer not to offer either furnished housing, a separate housing allowance, or a higher pay scale as it includes housing. If it is the later, you would need to compare your offer to people getting other offers.
As I recall, you have an MA and experience? Have you applied to SQU? Best salary and benefits in Oman, but this is not a rich country like KSA or UAE...
