Hi, I'm new to the Colombia forum but wanted to say hi and see how the coastal life in and around barranquilla is to live and work. Any accounts anyone wants to share?
I'm particularly interested in traveling, scuba diving, hiking, and learning Spanish. Is this a pretty good area for all activities?
How's the nightlife? |

Working and living are two very different things. Generally the coast is a vacation destination for people living in Bogota. There are a lot of great places to see; I'd recommend the department of Cesar in particular. You'll have to be very qualified and get a job at one of the top high schools or Universidad Del Norte to have any chance at subsidizing a scuba-diving, traveling life style. |

The coast if starting to come on up now. It is no longer as backward as it used to be but outside Santa Marta and Cartagena there is still not much need for the locals to speak English. |
