Interesting, but not surprising. I knew things were getting tight for them when they let their Fuxing branch go (right across from the Breeze Shopping Center) and both the Taipei Station branch and Nanjing East Road branch closed.
Both the Taiwanese owner(s) and foreign head teachers and management were crooks and dishonest with fellow native speaking teachers, staff and students. Wall Street Institute was accepting money from students right up until they suddenly locked their doors.
The thing is, a lot of EFL teachers put up with the bad management and poor working conditions at Wall Street Institute because they wanted to not have to work with children and wanted to only teach adults. That's hard to do in the small market in Taiwan.
Berlitz also closed up all of their schools on the island back in, I believe, 2008.
Since about 2005, things have really tightened up for TEFL work with adults, even in Taipei. |
