Hello,

My girlfriend is anywhere from mid-intermediate to low-advanced when it comes to speaking English (but she does have that thing where she can speak it MUCH better around me, because she's comfortable with me as opposed to speaking with the rest of the world.). She is currently in Japan and wants to move to New York City. She wants to do the whole, find an employer to sponsor her visa thing, but as a simple hair stylist that is not highly likely. Worst-case scenario she would be interested in staying here as a student (thereby killing 2 birds with one stone). Anyone have any recommendations of good ESL schools in New York City where they sponsor your visa for you? Please let me know here or via Private Message. Thanks.

I have no idea whether you were able to get my CC or not so I will post here. Hopefully, it will still be helpful.

My wife had good experiences learning English at GEOS and ALCC in New York City. I actually worked at GEOS New York for about 5 years and felt it was a professional and friendly place. The manager is Nobuko Nunez who I enjoyed working with. They have a nice international mix of students from various Asian countries, European students, Turkish students, and students from Latin America.

ALCC is also nice. The teachers are long-timers meaning they are serious teachers and know what they are doing. It is quite big - almost like a small college campus, but you can make your own program - ie. writing class, speaking class, and pronunciation if memory serves correctly. There is a very nice teacher called Gerald there who became a family friend after my wife stopped studying there.

Good luck!
