I will be living in Colombia from Sept 1 - Jan 3.

I will be bringing with me 5-6 thousand dollars.

Would prefer to live on the coast. But wouldn't be opposed to Cali, Medellin, or Bogota.

Planning on getting a part time job at an institute making 1mil a month.

Im not familiar with what Institutes pay on the coast (Barranquilla) but surely I should be able to find Institute work for 1mil correct?

Looking to really enjoy my time in Colombia making friends, learning / improving my Spanish, learning to dance, and exploring the different cities.

Sept cant get here soon enough!

Barranquilla has a Berlitz. You could start there, but I am not sure you would even make 1,000,000, as the demand for English isn't too high here and Berlitz charges a lot. Many locals prefer to do an intercambio, where you teach them English and they teach you Spanish. The Spanish here though, at times, doesn't even sound like Spanish. It reminds me of when I was in Wales and couldn't understand the people in the smaller towns, and English is my first language.

You might benefit from going to some of the Universities here and putting up an ad somewhere, Universidad Atlantico or Uninorte.

On a side note, can you tolerate extreme heat and humidity? September through November are extremely hot and rainy on the coast. We're talking 33 celsius and monsoon type rains.

I guess id be happy with 500,000 a month to cover rent. But hopefully I can find enough work to make 1mil. Maybe I can get some part time work at the Colombo. I know some people that have worked there.

Yes the costal spanish is diff. They like to cut off the ending of alot of words.

You mean putting up ads for privates at the University?

I have been to Quilla and it wasnt that bad. Rio de Janerio on the other hand is painfully hot and humid!

I live in a city with summers of 90 - 100 degress F. I can deal with heat, just cant really deal with coldness.

Only problem I would have would be the annoyingness of sweating as you travel to work in a button up!
