I have a question for those TEFL teachers in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and SA-

namely if given the instructions by the school administrators to include in your lesson plan, readings from the culture of your host countries what would you include? I am seeking a short list of songs, poetry, literary readings that would give a small sample of the cultural interests of various countires around the globe.

I'm British, so choose anything from the list and Wiki it.

Old Britain

Literature: Shakepeare
Poetry: Thomas Hardy
Painting:Constable
Politics: Churchill and Queen Elizabeth 2
Cities: London, Oxford, Bath and Edinburgh.
Food: Sunday roasts, fish and chips and milk puddings.
Drinks: Real Ale and Scotch.
Music: The Beatles
Football: Liverpool, Manchester United and the FA Cup
Other: Winning both wars

Modern Britain

Literature: The Sun
Art: Tracey Emin and Damian Hurst
Food: Curry and Kebabs
Drinks: Sambuca and cider
Music: Arctic Monkeys, the Streets and Adel-(All great)
Other: Cocaine use, hoodies, Islamophobia, benefits cheats (especially in Scotland and Wales), immigration, extortionate property prices, crap national football teams and high debt and unemployment.

Think that just about covers it.
