185,000 yen a month?! That's pretty low. Do you think the bonuses, allowance, and perks are worth it?

Six days a week?
You get an apartment but no way, I would not apply.

The yen is 120 to the dollar.
I can make more money in the USA, or people can make more as a bartender in Australia.

The pay is too low for that work.

You have to pay a fee for the car and what kind of commutes would it be?

This is what makes it interesting: https://jobs.gaijinpot.com/job/view/job_id/15507/lang/en#.VUSb8nBpaK0

The salary at that school was between ¥250,000 and ¥270,000 seven years ago.

Times have changed.

Yep.
More money before the great recession and more students.

I guess if you really want to go to Japan it is a start but the pay is low
and work on Saturday is tough.
I used to work Saturdays for years but I got two big bonuses
per year.

On Friday night you would want to go out but work on a Saturday morning
would not be fun at all.

I'm not rich, and I'm not that desperate. But it's the first time I've seen a monthly salary that low.

Yeah, I'm passing on the opportunity. ¥250,000 is my min.

The Filipino teachers will be all over this job.

This is another middle man recruiting agency that dispatches teachers to junior high schools. Their cut is huge, I assume. 50% - 70%, maybe?

185,000円 a month for a 5 or 6 day work week. WOW! Japan EFL continues to reach new lows.

That salary is low for for five days a week, never mind the additional 10 hour Saturday shift they ask for.

Tsuchiura and Tsukuba are awesome towns with low cost of living, great access to natural and cultural treasures, but on that schedule you'd have no money or time to appreciate it.

I don't know how many peeps can read on this forum...

It says 35-40 working hours (23-28 teaching hours) per week with shifts from 2pm-10pm apart from Sat. That is a five day working week.

The apartments are available to lease not free.

Yes, a very poor salary on offer!

Here's another one:

Quote:

Right, but "weekdays" doesn't mean "all 5 weekdays".

It says a total of 35-40 working hours per week.

If the hours on Saturday are 10am-8pm, that's 10 hours. The ad says "weekdays around 2-10pm". That's 8 hours. If it were 5 weekdays per week, that would amount to 40 hours alone, not counting the Saturday shift. Four weekdays per week, 2-10pm, would amount to 32 hours.

If we account for a 1-hour unpaid lunch break per day, we'd end up with:

9 hours (10am-8pm Saturday, minus 1 hour lunch) + 4x7 hours (2-10pm shift, minus 1 hour lunch, 4 weekdays per week) = 37 hours, which is what the ad indicates ("35-40 working hours/week").

I think it's more of a question of how many peeps can do basic math on this forum.

And, of course, none of this changes the fact that the salary offered still sucks.
