Jeff,
First off, I highly recommend bringing your own unblocked phone from the US/Canada/wherever. Phones (and technology in general) are VERY expensive here.
Most people just opt for the prepaid lines. You'll need to go to a Kolbi or ICE office and present your passport to open your phone number. This is a quick process, and you'll walk out with a sim chip to put in your phone. From there, you just keep an eye out for shops and places that have the little recharge logo on them for when you're running low on funds.
The only thing that irks me about ICE is that they don't warn you when your funds are low. So like mid-phone call it'll beep and let you know you're about to cut cut off in .05 seconds.
I know that Moviestar recently opened up here, but I know nothing about getting a line from them - most ticos I know chose to stay with ICE because they thought Moviestar was a rip off. |
