The Ministry of Education is implementing new measures to curtail cheating during final exams:

KUWAIT: Mariam Al-Wetaid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, met senior ministry officials and stressed on the need for strict control in order to prevent cheating during the upcoming final exams. The officials were told to prevent a repeat of cheating incidents that happened in previous years. Students will be inspected for phones and cheat sheets as they enter the examination hall, Al-Watan reported yesterday.
The meeting saw heated discussion as Wetaid told the officials that they will be held responsible for any negligence of disorder during tests. This prompted response from Talaq Al-Haim, Director of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Department, who argued that the undersecretary should share the responsibility as well. In other news, the MoE on Thursday informed schools about the official modified dates of the final exams.
The ministry explained that the start dates were advanced in order to ensure that the tests end before the beginning of Ramadan on June 28. According to the new schedule, fourth and fifth graders, as well as middle school students, will start their finals one day earlier on June 3. Meanwhile, high school finals will start on June 11 instead of the 15th. But the new instructions created frustration among school administrations and teachers, who believe there is another reason for the tests’ rescheduling since Ramadan’s start date is already known.
They feel instead that the ministry made its decision in order to ensure that the finals finish before the parliamentary by elections set to take place on June 26, according to sources quoted by Al-Jarida yesterday. |
Well, it's something, isn't it? I wonder if this will be reflected in higher education as well?

Cheating or no cheating, those who underperform will have their daddies come see the principal who, in turn, will see the teacher who, in turn, will see to it that the grade is magically augmented. Besides, in any case, most of these kids are hoping to eventually get a government "job" (a sinecure, more like), and the only skill/knowledge you need to excel at that is being able to screech "chai, chai!" at the obligatory Indian teaboy.
Cheating in exams is not Kuwait's problem; wa86a is. |
