Hi there,
I notice that many of you are established ESL teachers. I only have one semester of experience from years ago when I was studying abroad. My current profession is as a copywriter/blogger. However, I really want to give teaching abroad a try and I desperately want to do it in France and Spain - I want to become fluent in these languages.
That being said, what are my options? Any agencies I should work with? Or should I just go there? I have heard about language exchange programs, but would like to know more.
I am a single, American woman. I don't need to stay in the big city, and I don't mind rooming with other people to save money. |

More importantly, what passports do you have? Just an American one? It will be near impossible to get full-time legal work:

Sasha is correct; it's not about your qualifications but about your passport, in this case.
There are a few ways for non-EU citizens to get legal work/live permits for France/Italy/Spain.
1. Student exchange or student visa programs.
2. Marry a local
3. Get a passport from an EU member country via ancestry
Otherwise, after 90 days, you will be illegal (teaching illegally used to be fairly safe, but that was before the Schengen zone laws kicked in; not worth the risk now).
Goes for both full and part-time work, by the way.
You could consider Central/Eastern Europe (Czech Rep, Poland, etc) for legal options as an American. |
