Hi I currently looking for the position of EFL teacher in the UAE but I am finding it difficult to come by one. I read online that the best way to find a job is to email the schools your curriculum vitae. I have done this but I am still waiting on a response from many of them. I have a BA in English and will have a Masters in TESOL in September when I finish my thesis. Is this enough to find a job or do I need PGCE certification? I did receive one offer last week but it was for Nibras International School, Dubai and I found many bad reviews about it online so decided to decline. Can anyone provide information on EFL teaching in the UAE? I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Many employers want teachers to have already completed an MA. Plus, you don't mention your relevant experience. But seriously, you'd know whether your qualifications were enough if you've been applying in response to job postings stating the required quals. Otherwise, it's hit-n-miss.

I'd say that it is "most" employers. A partially completed degree is not recognized at all. Your timing is all wrong for this system. Thus they will look at your previous credentials and experience. The fact that you have heard back from few of them may show that you don't meet their criteria.

If you want to teach in the schools, the PGCE would be more helpful than an MA. An MA in TESOL is for university level... and you couldn't use it for application purposes until it is completed.

It is very difficult to get hired in the Middle East with limited credentials. They pay well... so they can demand more from us.
