Hello silentgir88
2. You are paid directly by the government and are paid on the Hijri calendar NOT the Gregorian calendar (good Hijri calendar and note that you'll be paid on the 24/25 day each Hijri month directly into a Riyad Bank account.
3. Be careful because you'll only be paid for the academic year not the calendar year (so you won't actually earn the salary on the offer letter...maybe about $3,000 USD less)
4. You'll live and work on the PNU campus. Unfortunately, it's not fully functioning. The grocery store is not yet open, but there is a daily bus at 5:45 to Tamimi market where you can get local and international groceries. The women's gym finally opened in the last 2 months we were there, but the pool isn't open

Hello! I interviewed with PNU a while back and was recently offered a position. Could you please elaborate on #3? How is it that your salary would be about $3k less than what is stated in the letter? Also, when you say that you are only paid for the academic year, does that mean during summer break there is nothing coming into your account at all for that time?
For #4, is the monorail functioning now? If not, when is it expected to be operational? Is the campus walkable? What did you think of the women's gym with the exception of the pool being closed?
Thanks! |

To answer your question, what I mean about the salary being less is that the Hijri calendar year is 354/355 days and the academic year is 283 days plus whatever they offer you for the summer (30 days paid or 60 days paid). What happened this year is we were paid only for the 283 days + our summer pay...this did not add up to a full calendar year salary that was stated in our offer letters. But who knows, maybe they made a correction and clarified this in their new contracts.
Oh and they will pay you the last month salary + the summer pay all at once before you start your summer vacation.
Yes, the monorail is up and running. It's quite convenient for getting around on campus. It's just as fast to walk to campus from the housing as it is to take the monorail from the station located within the housing area. It's about a 10 minute walk to the gym.
The gym is nice! Plenty of machines, great weight room and running track.
Hope this helps |

Apparently the Saudi Business Centre and Education Experts (according to the more recent thread, "What's the current situation at PNU like?"). |

Thanks nomad soul. Ad by Education Experts says 30,000 GDP *including housing and transport*. Does that mean 30,000 as well as housing & transportation or without housing & transportation?
If it's the latter then really?!?
Does the other recruiter pay better? |

It means that they are trying to make the number look bigger than it is. The total package is worth 30k. Nothing extra for housing and transportation.
Monthly salary is around 10,500 riyals per month.
The contract is for an academic year meaning that you do not receive a salary during the summer (part of June, July, part of August).
Yes, really. It is a pretty appalling offer.
SBC is about the same. |

I would add that the British pound is at its lowest point against the dollar in 30 years.
I'm no expert on currency fluctuation, but I think it will climb back towards 1.4 dollars to the pound. In which case teachers will be working in Saudi for a total package worth 25,000 pounds a year, or less if they are not paid for the holidays.
If you can get a job as a car park attendant with Leeds City Council (and those jobs aren't easy to get anymore), you should make about 20,000 pounds a year before tax.
Think about it. |
