Hello,

I have a question about baggage limits, as far as flights from the U.S. with layovers in Europe. Since these flights prove so much cheaper than non-stop flights, it would be more convenient to get one, but I read in another post that Inter-European flights have much stricter baggage limits than overseas flights.

Would these Inter-European baggage limits apply to a flight from, say, New York to Prague, that has a layover and flight change in Paris or London? As in, would one run into problems as to the number of bags and their weights when trying to check in for the second leg of the flight? Is there any way to get around the baggage limitations on the second leg of the flight without paying huge fees?

Also, has anyone run into problems as far as going through customs? Most of the second-leg flights begin two hours or so after the first leg is scheduled to arrive, from what I've seen. Is this enough time to get through customs at Heathrow or DeGaulle, pick up bags and re-check them for the second flight, or have many people found that they've missed their flights while struggling through customs, etc., in London or Paris?

Thanks for your help.

Chris

I had a problem with baggage limits when I booked tickets thru two different agencies (to save money).

If you've booked a ticket from the US with a changeover in London or Germany, for example, so long as you've booked the entire trip with one agency, the higher baggage limits should apply without any problem all the way thru.

Also, if you've booked the entire trip with one agency, you shouldn't have to go thru customs at your layover location; you'll do it all at Praha Ruzyne. Just check your baggage thru to Praha from your point of departure.
If you've booked thru two agencies, you may have to go thru customs at your layover location. Then, you take a chance on losing stuff.
As a general rule, try to carry on some basic clothing changes and anything important, like contact lenses and equipment, just in case......but the latest time my luggage was lost, the airline got it to me in our Czech village within 12 hours - service was great!
