This is regarding changes for direct hire employees at governement schools... My school just told me per a recent government decision there will be no raises for new direct hire foreigners until after their 2nd year of teaching. And salaries will top out at 40K.

Has anyone else been told anything like this? I was promised an annual 3% to 7% raise every year. Some of the teachers here were making more than 40K. Not sure yet if the school cut their salary.

First off. Its sounds very fishy. Wouldn't be the first time a Thai gov school has tried to pull this kind of stuff on teachers by blaming government regulations and what not.

Even if there is some truth to it...

new, so you wouldn't be affected by it then.

Based on many years of working with government schools and agencies, I can say that if a school wants to pay a teacher a specific salary, they will definitely find a way to do it.

Personally I don't buy it, but I wouldn't be surprised either as it sounds like something the Thai gov would do.

Curious if anybody else has heard anything about this.
