Greetings, I've been reading a lot of info on these boards and decided to apply for an account on here to get some advice.
I am preparing to get a job teaching in Asia. I am a 25 year old male from the United States with a Bachelor's in English and am going to take the CELTA in San Diego in October. I have three months experience teaching speech and debate in Seoul last summer to elementary, middle, and high school students, for what that's worth.
My goals for teaching English in Asia are:
a) gain experience as an educator to get better teaching jobs in the future
b) learn a foreign language
c) save money to defray costs of looming grad school enrollment

I'm interested in teaching in either China, Taiwan, Vietnam, or Thailand. Based on what I'm trying to accomplish what schools can I expect to work in and what are some ballpark estimates of my earning potential in those countries? Could someone with my experience get a job in an international school or university, even in a 2nd or 3rd tier city? Also, if I could get some recommendations on good private/buxiban style schools, that would be awesome. Thank you!

This has been done to death (you only need to scan down a page or so in here, the newbie or general forums to find the answer.

If you need money AND you are a newbie with no experience then the only answer is Korea. Airfare and housing coupled with a decent wage.

Follow that with anywhere else in Asia. You can expect wages in the $500-1500 range, no benefits, no airfare and with the exception of China usually no housing.

With no qualifications and no experience your chances of landing a job in a proper international school or university (outside of China) are about zero.

I figured this kind of thread would be repetitive, and I appreciate the response. Cheers

Yeah, what Tom said re: Korea. But I guess
if you've been there and are looking elsewhere, maybe you didn't enjoy it.

In terms of the other four countries you might want to look at Taiwan before the other three.

Thailand is more about having fun than having a career or making/saving money. It's kind of a good place to be a slacker.

Vietnam is a good place to make a little more money than Thailand. Some people like it but it is not as comfortable.

China is apparently a mixed bag. People have told me that there are a lot of differences between various provinces/cities; some are good, some are not.
