| I don't know about living like a King (or Queen), but there are things one can have in a developing company that one probably couldn't afford on a teacher's salary in the US. For example, in Mexico I have household help, and someone to cook for me. When I am not working, all my free time is just that, free time. That, to me, is a luxury. The cost of fresh fruit and veggies here is roughly 75% less than in the US, so I eat food that is healthier and much more delicious. Mexico has an extensive system of intercity buses, so travel in the region is cheap and comfortable, so I am able to travel a lot more than if I were in the US. In pretty much any town in Mexico you can find a decent hotel in the $20 range, and a very nice one in the $30. You probably won't be able to do these things your first year, or at least not all of them, but there are perks, big and small, to living somewhere where most services and products cost a fraction of what they could cost in your home country. |

I would have to say...
United Arab Emirates
Saudi Arabia
Oman
... they offer most per month ranging from 2,500-4,500 + accommodation.
I would also factor in the cost of living in the country and how much one can save in the said country. |

Good-paying jobs in those countries are competitive and generally go to MA holders. The OP's criteria of a "BA, a decent TEFL cert, a year or two of experience" might get a second look and subsequent mediocre job offer from desperate, shady recruiters/contracting companies. |

Not necessarily. It depends on what your definition of "living extremely well" is. Also, remember the comfort level of lifestyle is all relative. My qualifications are somewhat middle-of-the-road, but I feel I live a very comfortable lifestyle in Qatar as a TEFLer, and I have considerably more disposable income than the average person back in the West.
I'm now back home in Europe, for my 6 week paid summer holiday (the flight was paid for me too), and have bags of money to spend on whatever and whomever I like, while my friends and family are all having to penny pinch. This was all money saved with ease, whilst buying more or less what I want, and eating and drinking in 5-star restaurants/bars on a regular basis back in Doha.
I may not live like a Russian oligarch or an Arab prince, but on a global scale (think of the countless millions around the world who live in abject poverty), and even in comparison to the average westerner, I think this humble TEFLer lives very well indeed. |

Oman? I think even the most basic entry-level position in Qatar pays more than the average job in Oman. The money they offer seems pretty low, from what I and others have been offered for uni positions. |

Dear bulgogiboy,
I agree about Oman versus Qatar; hence my previous post.
"If you have a Masters in TESOL or Applied Linguistics and about 3 - 5 years overseas experience, I'd say the three best countries salary-wise are in the Middle East: The UAE, Saudi, and Qatar."
I also agree with your previous post about "living well" - in the Middle East the relatively high salaries plus no taxes and housing provided can make living well (and saving for the future) very possible.
I know it did for me  .

I want a castle, 10 wives and 50 concubines. I want 20 sports cars, and some racing camels. I want 5-10 servants, at least one of which had to have been a SI swimsuit model. I want an olympic sized swimming pool with a tiki bar. And lets face it, I don't want to work. A king does not work.
Any suggestions? |
