Hi,

Im currently in Krakow, Poland, and will be for the next month or so.

Do you think its worth looking for TEFL type jobs for the next academic year? There are so many negative posts on this forum that its making me wonder. Everything seems so cheap when I compare back to sterling (Beers for 50-60p, bread rolls for 5p, noodles/ pasta for 20/30p and even 500ml of beer in the Rynek for 2), but I realise Polish salaries are a lot smaller, and will not go anywhere near as far. What is the average Krakow TEFL salary?

Im a native English speaker with UK passport and I have a bachelors degree and CELTA. Though I don't have any experience in teaching English.

If anyone does reckon its a good idea to apply for jobs, do you have any recommendations of schools I should aim for?

Thanks in advance, as you'll be a major help.

Krakow is absolutely flooded with serious teachers and fools alike. To give you an idea - my friend owns a school there, and she is able to hire someone with a degree in English, CELTA and experience for around 35zl an hour. The same person is then hired out for anything between 65zl to 100zl an hour - and they are all on 0 hour contracts.

If you want to stay in Poland, you can easily find work off the beaten path. But you're not going to get it in Krakow, unless you're very, very lucky.

Look up the school 'Lincoln'. I used to work there many moons ago and it was an outfit that paid good money back then. I would recommend it now assuming it has the same management set up. They were also advertising for teachers recently.
