Is it appropriate to get a reference for a teaching job in Japan from a former Japanese student who is now a good friend? |

It may depend on the student. I used 2 for a job application for university. Both students were professionals (one a medical doctor, the other a university president).
And, yes, I got the job. |

Thanks Glenski!
My friend/former student now has a MA in TESOL. I just thought maybe it would look awkward to a Japanese recruiter in that some schools might frown upon student/teacher friendships outside of work. But I think she could help as well since it's been 7 years since I've been back to Japan and she knows my passion for teaching back in Japan! |
