Don't know anyone who is working there professionally (don't know if info from one of the grounds staff would be helpful), but I'm familiar with the general area.
Lingnan is way out in the northwest of the New Territories, on the outskirts of Tuen Mun (a large "new town"). Including walk/ shuttle bus ride to the MTR station or main bus routes, it takes about an hour to get downtown (Central or TST) by public transport. Nice campus, backing on to a country park. Apart from an "expatty" night time scene, you can find pretty much everything you might need in Tuen Mun itself, and there 's also an OK shopping centre in the adjoining Fu Tai estate. By Hong Kong standards, this is a cheap area for renting, and there are good options both for village houses or urban areas. |

You need to know exactly which section of the university as the advertisements for jobs will ALL be under the heading of "Lingnan University." OK if you are teaching undergraduates or post graduates in the main university, but there is also Lingnan Community College which is on the same campus. This teaches Higher Diploma and Assoc Diploma courses. A lot of the students are drop outs and have minimal English. A PHD would be required for the main university but you could probably get part time at the Community College with a Masters. They rarely take on permanent staff there. LIFE is also another college (Lingnan Institute) coming under "Lingnan" umbrella. It's more of a technical college with some Assoc degrees, diplomas and short courses etc. LIFE has locations off campus at Tsim Sha Tsui and Olympic and maybe other locations that I don't know about. They often advertise for part time lecturers but the pay (on an hourly basis) is not so good. You would need permanent resident status to take up this kind of work as they would not sponsor you. Check out "affiliated colleges" on the Lingnan webpage. |
