Anybody living in Perak at the moment?
I got a job there, starting in January. I am wondering the basic monthly cost of living (utilities, internet, food, etc). Also I would to know how fast is the internet, can you do Skype video call smoothly?
Thanks |

No one replied.
Perak's big. If you lived in or near Ipoh, it would be a big town existence. Elsewhere, it might be a bit more rural. Either way, it's not too far from bigger places such as KL or Penang.
Why not give a bit more information about where you will be living? |

Hi,
Haven't been on the site for a while but I'm an American living in Perak, in Ipoh. I teach at a local university
Cost - I'm renting a house a bit outside town for rm350 a month partially furnished but in town would be a little more. I would advise going through your employer if you try to find a place yourself it could be more expensive. It's much cheaper to live here than Kuala Lumpur and food is also slightly cheaper as well. My wife is Malaysian so it's easier for me.
Internet is fine but it depends where you live - I've lived here 6 years and lived 3 different places - first place (Lim Garden) internet was awful second place (Canning Garden) internet was the exact opposite extremely fast and current place it's not as fast as the second place but good enough. I use Skype with not much problem.
One thing about Ipoh - It has a surprisingly good nightlife which one discovers when they live here. |
