A fair question I think, some have already indicated that it is business as usual, just another date on the calendar.
It begs the question, are you aware that the Turkish government has given it as one of three religious holidays that guest workers (thats us by the way) are allowed to take each year?
Are you working on that day because you don't know any better or you feel that you have nothing to celebrate? |

My school allowed us to take a week of for Christmas if we're leaving the country. I seem to be the only one taking time off to go to a place with hot wine and Christmas markets. Meanwhile all the other teachers at my school are constantly complaining that they aren't taking Christmas off. You just had to write your name down suckers! |

I could take the time off if I wanted. But really, who would I celebrate with?
If I had anybody here close to me I totally would. But seeing as I have no girlfriend, I'm not going back to America for it, and I'm not really close to the only other foreigner working at my school (If I had many foreign acquaintances it might be one thing, but celebrating one foreign coworker I barely know is just weird), the sanest thing is to work through it, and see how many students and coworkers remember to wish me a Merry Christmas (or Joyeux Nol, Feliz Navidad, Frehliche Weinachten, or however you say it in Turkish "İyi Noel?").
Regards,
~Q |

Noeliniz kutlu olsun! I seem to remember. Enjoy the day, however you spend it. |
