There was an announcement in the Newfoundland press yesterday from the Premier that the province has signed a new contract with the State of Qatar. There was no mention of having to wait for Qatar to sign so it looks like CNAQ will go on. No contract details were provided in the brief article
Good news for EFL teachers who enjoy smaller class sizes and fewer contact hours than content teachers plus probably the best EFL salary package in the region.
Gossip was the Qatari Law governing the End of Service Gratuity was one big sticking point in getting a new contract in place. It will be interesting to see if that issue has been resolved.
ETA - there has just been a message from the CNAQ President's office (with an copy of an announcement from the NL Minister of Advanced Education and Skills) stating that NO the contract has not been signed and that negotiations are ongoing |

Excluding places like ARAMCO direct hire... KAUST... and probably a couple others that fly below the radar like the American School on the ARAMCO compound...
Oh.. and of course, it is limited to Canadians. So, perhaps you should say "Good news for EFL teachers with a Canadian passport who..."

Yes you are correct VS. As Canadian passport holders are the only ones eligible for employment that reduces the "pool" from which to choose.
Unfortunately, this precludes some non-Canadian, eminently qualified with bags of experience from employment, and opens the pool to some whose credentials, experience and expertise are not at the same level. |
