Does anyone know of a good place to look for a cheap flight down to Brazil? Also, I've heard that you can't buy a one-way flight down there. Is this true? If so, and if you're planning on staying down there for a while, is it best to buy a round-trip ticket and then change the date of the return when it is determined?

I fly Continental from Newark Airport and it is about $850 return. Someone told me that you can fly Japan Airlines out of JFK in New York for about $450 return, but you have to book way in advance. Obviously, you would pay more for flying from Boston.

Anyways, here is a good online Brazilian travel agency:

Also, the return ticket is to get the visa. They won't grant you a tourist visa without the return trip, but you can always extend the stay by paying a $200 fee.

United also runs specials (mostly toward the end of the month) from the US to Rio and Sao Paulo for around $550. The flights are setup for mid week departure and mid week return no more than 10 days later. You could probably "over-sleep" the return date by 5 months and just deal with the Standby stuff...Just a thought. Just keep checking the United website.

I found some tickets for about $600 by calling 1-800-747-4540, they were pretty flexable on dates too.
