Overall, I would probably recommend going to a smaller town like Manizales or the coast to find work. Bogota has crappy weather and lots of teachers desperately searching for better gigs. The teachers I knew were doing split shifts and running around town all the time. It just gets tiring in the long run..

Cali wasn't great for work either. Low pay, long hours, and not many decent opportunities to go up the ladder.

Having said that, I really like Colombia, but for work it can be difficult to make things work out. In the smaller towns there are more opportunities to work in the high school/international school/language school with minimal quals and you could probably do private teaching on the side with less ground to cover and more chance of making a mark.

You will be fine in Bogota if you stay out of certain areas and take certain precautions like not walking around with expensive things (camera, ipod, ect) and not wandering around at night by yourself.

I've been here for over 2 years, been robbed at knife point, know plenty of others that have experienced the same thing, but never heard of anyone actually getting hurt.

Getting a job isn't difficult, getting a good job is another thing, it may take time and meeting the right people. The institutes will have you running all over town and don't pay the best, however you may have to do that first and gain some experience. I did that and landed a colegio job after about 6 months.
