A new teacher has started at my school after teaching in China for the last two years.
She says that compared to her previous school, the Indo school is much more relaxed. The students here in Indo want to "play games and have fun", while in China the students were much more serious and wanted to study hard. The school admin and staff also seem more more 'chilled' and mellow.
It may well be more of an individual school difference, rather than a cultural difference, so YMMV.... |

I taught in Indonesia and I am now in China. I have found that I do a lot less here, in terms of planning, teaching and admin. I have lots of free time and there is very little red tape (at least I don't see it) I also find we are treated better here & have more respect from the school & the students: although that may be down to the simple fact that they need us?
In Indonesia I worked longer hours, with more of the above - a pile of red tape with visas and exit permits and the fact that you are 'owned' by your school for a year (due to the visa regulations). Funny thing is I worked for EF Indonesia, and now I work for EF China. I seem to do nothing here, or very little - but the school in Indo was like a factory!!
nevertheless, Indonesia is much more fun. But forget about saving money as things can be expensive there. |

check the web site for the jakarta post to read about LIFE in indonesia. the "teaching" side is varied. if you like teaching "ankle bighters" join the bubbly, energetic, enthusiastic entertainers at EF. bring your crayons.
try a uni job in china may be a better idea. less hours and ok salary. |
