Does anyone know when ESL positions generally become available in Jordan, and what qualifications are usually sought after in an applicant? I have no prior experience teaching English abroad, and I am armed solely with a BA in Political Science and a certificate to teach ESL from Oxford Seminars. A primary reason why I want to go to Jordan is because of its large Palestinian population, as well as its geographical proximity to Palestine. I know my lack of qualifications may be an insurmountable hindrance, but if anyone has any helpful advice, I would greatly appreciate it if you could relay it to me. Thanks!

You'll want to start by getting a better TEFL quantification because Oxford Seminars isn't going to cut it in the Middle East.

As rdobbs98 suggested, you need a solid TEFL cert---go for a CELTA. But even with a valid certificate, your lack of experience and non-related BA aren't likely to qualify you for a TEFL job for any countries in the region. However, if you're seriously interested in teaching Palestinians, there's a recent ad on Dave's seeking volunteer teachers in Nablus (http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=26729).

Thank you both for your timely replies. I especially thank you for the heads up regarding the opportunity in Palestine. Your interaction is what makes Dave's ESL Cafe a valuable tool for those within the ESL market.
