I will be in Medellin shortly, these are some newbie questions:

1. As a foreigner is it a problem to get a sim card.

2. Likewise is it easy to sign up for a tv satellite service?

3. How long can Canadians/Americans stay before they need a tourist visa?

4. As a foreigner can I easily get a land line?

Any other tips would be appreciated.

1) No (pre-paid)

2) Not 100% sure but id assume it will not be easy as you would presumably need to sign a contract for which you do not have proper ID.

3) Tourist visa will be stamped in your passport upon arrival.

4) see #2

Id be worried about finding a job and work visa before any land lines and satellite tv. Thats no easy task in Medellin....

I got a Tigo sim card but couldn't seem to make an international call.

I checked on the net. Apparently you need "your carrier number," However, none of the carriers mentioned was Tigo.

Could anyone please give some advice. I am aware that it should be something like this: 00 (carrier no.) 1 (and the rest of the number.

i'm not sure what this problem is all about, but in any case, calling international on a cell probably isn't cost effective. get skype.

I thought I was clear enough.

Let's say I'm calling Toronto (or texting) and the number 416 663 6666.
What numbers do I dial before it? I am trying 001 but that's not working.
