Hi there, anyone know anything about this school? It's new and set to open its doors this coming year. They have an ad on the interwebs. Can't find any discussion of it on these boards. Any word?
Also, anyone with any Oman (or other) uni job tips or leads for the early new year please feel free to PM me. Yank, 5 years experience(Korea, U.S., Palestine), on campus MA-ESL as of next month, currently teach adults at Univ. of Texas ELI. Thanks for all the great info on these boards, I hope to return the favor once I'm in the mix.
Thank you much |

Hard to have any discussion of a place that doesn't exist yet. If you have been lurking around these boards for a few years, you will know that new places are almost always... not one's best choice... messy and disorganized.
Perhaps someone may show up with some rumors but don't count on it. Your best bet might be the MoM and MoHE positions that use the various recruiters. They will give you Middle East experience after the MA which is what your CV is lacking right now.

It's being built now along from the Scientific College of Design. The campus looks huge.
I believe it's being headed up by Australians and will offer HNDs. |

What is an "HND"? (for those of us who aren't Australian)

I believe that HND means Higher National Diploma, well it did in the UK when I was a student. |

The commander of the Oman Armed Services, Sultan Qaboos has decreed that a new cross service Military Technological College (MTC) will be built and become a Centre of Excellence. The MTC will offer HND, BSc, and MSc for military and civilian students.
They are offering 1900 OMR for English language teachers (housing is included in the salary).
Last summer, they interviewed candidates in UK for different posts with MTC. |

I wonder if an HND would be sort of like the US Associate Degree. That is normally a two year program, and if they continue on for another couple years, it can become a BA.
So, are you saying that they don't offer housing... and you have to find a flat yourself and pay for it?

I have the same question as above, as I can only find upper positions advertised on the internet. Does anyone have any contact details for this school or know why they don't have a website?
Is anyone currently working there? |

The place is still a building site but I spoke to someone last year who had met one of the senior managers.
I would think the teaching posts will be offered for late 2013. |

There were some very negative posts about MTC, but they have mysteriously disappeared. Hmm.. |

It's possible that the posters work there and discovered that the management are monitoring this forum and therefore removed them for their own safety. |

Agree with MuscatGary's assumption
Student numbers are much lower than expected hence many contracts will not be renewed. |
Generally the case in Oman, the oil price deficit is hitting hard. Several British contractors have pulled out due to not being paid. A big one was building the fuel reservoir system at the airport., that's stopped now and will affect the future 'international' status. |
