And what did Spengler suggest would happen after democracy fails? We live in precarious times . . .

Was just at the UCU site and came across this very important document:

http://www.ucu.org.uk/media/pdf/b/6/Into_Uni_Glos_briefing_Oct12_v2.pdf

Definitely required reading. One wonders why a university anywhere in the world would want to get involved with these cowboys.

The Into virus is now becoming parasitic. Many teachers at its London centre are having to teach for SEVEN and EIGHT hours per day!!

It's common knowledge that teaching for six hours a day hardly gives the students a high-quality experience, yet INTO insist on giving out even worse timetables to some teachers, safe in the knowledge that their non-union policy will allow them to ride over any protests. Shame on them.

They are currently advertising for new teachers. Do yourself a favour and AVOID this bunch of shysters!

I recently had to teach 6 hours a day and that was hard enough. However I didn't feel exploited because I was working for a university that paid well and looked after me. Working 8 hours a day at a crooked company like INTO, who pay peanuts and expect the earth, would be hell indeed. What I don't understand is how INTO can still recruit teachers to do such work? They must either be desperate foreigners or unqualified locals. Any self-respecting teacher with a sound background in TEFL, wouldn't touch these crooks with a barge pole.

I think that the correct phrase to describe Into these days is 'sub-optimal' (or perhaps 'sub-prime'). I did a summer there on the pre-sessional course and found it far from satisfactory.

Having done many similar pre-sessional courses for universities and 'real' colleges, I can compare - although there is precious little to compare, and much to contrast.

The money, timetabling, organisation, syllabus, management - they are all way below what is provided at a proper university. The Into focus seems to be on cutting corners, getting away with the minimum, and dumping on the teachers, whilst at the same time hyping things up to bring in the maximum numbers of students.

If they had any real concern for their customers - the students - they would take more care to provide real quaility. But the focus is on profit and nothing else!

I was just wondering if there any teachers working at Into out there. I see that the dreaded Into approach has attracted several employees to vent their spleen on glassdoor.com.

So is the place actually getting worse? I left some time back and no longer have any contacts there.

I guess that they will be advertising for summer pre- sessional teachers soon, if not already. Any comments to be made on that?
