Hi All,

I am new to this forum. I have been thinking strongly about teaching English in Russia as my contract job will come to an end and I want to have something to fall back on. I was recently in Ekaterinburg to visit some friends and while there I did a bit of sniffing around. I went to the Ural State University and they said that they would be delighted to take me on and sort out my work permit but the pay is really low. Obviously I have the private schools in mind. I was therefore wondering if anyone on here has had experience of teaching in Ekaterinburg and the good schools to look out for. I will be doing the CELTA shortly. I have very little prior teaching experience but I did teach high school kids history for a couple of days a few years back as a stand in.

Many thanks.

Hi P,

PMed you. It's got to be worth moving to Ekaterinburg just to be able to go to the Rosy Jane. The more I think about it, the more I come to see it as the best pub in Russia!

Cheers! Let us know how you get on

But unless you manage to find quite a few private lessons, you won't afford to eat there very often on what your salary is likely to be there! There are a number of expats in town from various countries nowadays who are on good money and places like this tend to cater for them and other high-income locals, rather than English teachers....
