If you are in Taiwan, your Amazon.com homepage will now state "Shopping from China?" at the top. (As far as I know this is a recent development, but maybe it has been there for a while and I haven't noticed.)
Just a subtle little nod to China by Amazon, but if all the big companies start doing it, watch out! |

Under the One-China Policy don't the folks in Taipei claim to be the legit government of China anyways? Unless and until Taiwan declares independence, I think calling the Republic of China "Taiwan" in the first place could be construed as pandering to Anglo-Saxon sensibilities, with our beliefs that international politics should be nice and neat, with no more and no less than one entity per territory.

Hmmm...worth looking into. I'm skeptical though because the site uses simplified characters. I'd have to start a new, seperate account, but maybe if I entered a Taiwanese address it would be kinder and more understanding. |

You're right, there is no amazon.tw site. Using Amazon from a Taiwanese IP address probably defaults to amazon.cn because Taiwan and the Mainland share a common language - Chinese. Amazon shoppers in Latin America are probably taken directly to amazon.es for the same reason.
