Congratulations, Haruka! I spent some time in Saitama (Hanno) and liked it a lot. It's close to Tokyo, but feels like "the rest of Japan." If I were to settle in Japan permanently, I'd look for a place like that.

| I think AEON makes you pay what amounts to visa insurance so that you won't skip out when you get there. |

| Yep. It's a processing fee. You get it back with your first paycheck. |

Yup. The whole thing about "visa processing costs" is bullshit. What they're really bothered about is the cost of replacing a teacher who didn't show up. I suspect that the fee would run afoul of Japan's anti-forced labour laws if it were ever seriously challenged. |
