Congratulations, Haruka! I spent some time in Saitama (Hanno) and liked it a lot. It's close to Tokyo, but feels like "the rest of Japan." If I were to settle in Japan permanently, I'd look for a place like that.

I think AEON makes you pay what amounts to visa insurance so that you won't skip out when you get there.

ON their website they mention a $200 fee once you have accepted a job with them.

Yep. It's a processing fee. You get it back with your first paycheck.

Sounds more like a 'make sure they don't run off before working until their first paycheck' fee to me.

Yup. The whole thing about "visa processing costs" is bullshit. What they're really bothered about is the cost of replacing a teacher who didn't show up. I suspect that the fee would run afoul of Japan's anti-forced labour laws if it were ever seriously challenged.
