It looks like my wife is going to be offered a job with cfbt Brunei. I am concerned about the fact that husbands can not get a dependent visa. Our plan was for me to stay out home and take care of our baby and pursue a masters degree. I am an American so it is not possible for me to work for cfbt. My wife is Canadian.

My concerns:

1. Would I be able to get local health insurance?

2. Would I be able to drive in Brunei?

3. Would I ever be able to get legal status not just a tourist visa?

4. I have taught public school in Korea for the last five years and I have been a teacher trainer there for the last two years. I have a bachelor of Science from a good university and 120 in class TESOL. Are there any other ESL jobs available to Americans with my qualifications in Brunei?

Hi
Having left Brunei and CfBt last year after 7 years, I can tell you that you will NOT get anything other than a spousal visa. You will NOT be entitled to work (unless the employer can arrange a special work permit for you).
Driving is not a problem.
CfBT have health insurance
Americans generally find it VERY difficult to get jobs in teaching in Brunei as the system is English biased....and you guys have not spoken English for hundreds of years - JOke!!
Good luck
