Hello to all,

I have a few interviews lined up for International Schools in India. I have a BA, MA and a teaching certificate for higher education. I have 4 years international experience. Anyhow, there my credentials.

What should I negotiate during my interview (taking for granted that accom is provided and other perks)? If anyone can give me a salary range or any additional info, it will be much appreciated.

Regards,

Ok, I'm five years out of date now, but hopefully this helps:-

INR50,000 was what call centres paid. Genuine international schools do expat salaries. So more than double that. I did a bit part time at the American school in Chennai and it was USD75 for a half day.

$75 x 2 (morning/afternoon) x 5 (days a week) x 4 (weeks) = $3000 a month = INR133,000.

Hi. It's been a busy week so not much chance to reply.

I really enjoyed being in India and life in general there.
Teaching I would say I enjoyed 90% of the time.

Teaching in British Council, Delhi:
90% locals,
mostly adults - highly motivated, worked well, respectful.
some teens - quite motivated, worked quite well, respectful
Usually keen to chat and practise outside class. Speaking lots better than writing and grammar. For example I taught lots of so-called 'elementary' classes. These guys could easily speak about any topic. They had great confidence and fluency, just lots of mistakes.
The thing that really bugged me, and what I wish I had appreciated at the time, because it hardly ever happens now - they wanted to ask lots of questions at the end of class. It was annoying when after me doing an hour of eg. 'present continuous', they'd ask 'Can you explain present continuous?' Not sure if I was just rubbish?! or they just wanted a bit more....
Now where I am, they never ask anything! They all run away as soon as the bell goes. So does it mean I'm getting better at explaining, or... Smile

Teaching in American International school, Chennai.
70% kids Korean, dads working in Hyundai car factory. 30% mixed expat/local rich kids. I just did a bit part time, now and again. Kids were pretty cool, normal, mixed level. no issues. Nice place to work.
