No doubt Razz
But visa-wise I've been told that not only do you need a separate visa to travel from China to Hong Kong, but also another new visa for the return flight. Can anyone shed any light on this?

It depends on what nationality you are. Fortunately HK is pretty open with its borders.

Getting into HK shouldn't be too much of an issue. Returning to China could be.

If you have a Residency Permit (for China) don't worry, that acts as an unlimited visa for the duration of its validity.

If you just entered China on a visa (a single entry visa) and want to go to HK, you would have to have another visa to return to China.

Yeah, the specifics of your question are very unclear. When I first came to China I had an L visa. I went to HK every month cause I could only stay 30 days at a time. Your mainland visa or res permit are always valid for the time they state. Getting into HK is about nationality. As an American I can just walk through and get 90 days.
