Why do you suppose so many of us end up treaching in the Middle East or Asia ?

I'm increasingly of the opinion that teachers should tell these potential employers that their salaries are outdated, don't reflect the cost of living and that the school expects far too much for the wages they're offering. Perhaps it might work to the profession's advantage in future: If more of us said 'I could earn more at McDonalds than as your full-time teacher' schools may start to review the salaries.

Perhaps.

But probably not.

As you say, it seems mostly to be a problem in Mediterranean

Across 13 years I've always just ignored bad offers. Even if I've initially responded due to initial prevarication. I've only had two persist in contacting me. I sent both a scathing, point by point trashing of their offers in essay form replete with opening statement and conclusion. I got one sad, whingy response with an improved but equally ridiculous offer. Of course I ignored it. I thoroughly enjoyed both events.

I rember a singularly inept individual in Jeddah asking me if I would run evening classes for him. He offered me 50SR an hour. I hung up. He phoned back and I esplained to him the Labour Economics of EFLing in Jeddah.
